Studied at Paignton School of Art, 1937–40, under the sculptor Alexander Sutcliffe, then at Royal College of Art, 1940–1 and 1946–8, with Gilbert Spencer, Percy Horton and others. During World War II Mount served in the Friends’ Ambulance Unit attached to the Second French Armoured Division. Mount taught drawing and painting at Winchester School of Art, then in 1955 went to Nigeria to open and run an art department at Yaba College of Technology. While there he was introduced to architectural sculpture and began three-dimensional work. He experimented with new materials and worked on a large scale, but when Mount returned to England in 1962 for lack of architectural outlets he turned to smaller pieces in fibreglass, cast iron and bronze.
