Sculptor, born in Belfast. She studied art as a mature student at Middlesex Polytechnic, 1985–7, then at Bath College of Higher Education, 1987–9, graduating with honours. She did a series of Victim heads, exploring the areas of trust, betrayal, love and death; also looked at the Hero and the idea of the Virgin. Showed in an independent exhibition at ICA in 1989, the year when she also exhibited at Leigh Gallery and Beaux Arts, Bath. Further exhibitions included Bath Society of Artists and West Wharf Gallery, in Cardiff, in 1991. Volk developed her technique over some years, all her pieces being modelled from clay and individually hand-built using coils to create a hollow shell. They were then fired at a high temperature and finished in a variety of materials.
