This painting won the first prize for painting in the Penwith Society's Festival of Britain competition in 1951. Barns-Graham received received £75 prize money. The judges for the prize were John Rothenstein, Director of the Tate Gallery, Philip James Director of the Art Department of the Arts Council of GB and ex-Mayor Alderman Garold Cock.
