Estelle Adamson was Director of Nursing at St Thomas’s Hospital from 1965–1970. She was the last matron of St Thomas's Hospital, leaving in 1970. She wears the red civil ribbon bar of the Order of the British Empire and a Nightingale badge. Adamson was awarded the OBE in 1962.

Estelle Adamson trained at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing at St Thomas’ Hospital. After various roles she took up the appointment of Matron of the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. In 1965 She was appointed Matron at St Thomas’ Hospital. She worked extensively for the Royal College of Nursing and was made Deputy President in 1963. She was awarded an OBE for her life-long work in Pioneering Nursing.
